ABOUT RISK MANAGEMENT @ OPORTUN

We are growing our world-class team of mission-driven risk managers who are passionate about broadening financial inclusion by untapping insights from alternative data. Be part of the team responsible for developing and running Oportun’s marketing optimization platform that leverage Oportun’s core intellectual property for scoring risk for underserved consumers that often lack a traditional credit score or are mis-scored by traditional credit bureaus. In this role you will be working with large and diverse alternative data sets and machine learning to execute multi-product and multi-channel marketing programs. You will also drive growth and optimize marketing spend across multiple products and channels by leveraging alternative data to help predict which consumers would likely be interested in one of Oportun’s affordable, credit building lending products.

Overview

We’re looking for an analytically minded and driven professional to join our Data Management and Business Insights Team! This person will be responsible for partnering with our internal insights teams and expanding our BI and reporting capabilities.

The ideal candidate is an experienced data storyteller with a passion for innovative data visualizations and enabling self-service analytics, an eagerness to collaborate with several cross-functional teams, and the curiosity to learn more every day.

Responsibilities

• Partner with several of our internal data and analytics teams to develop and operationalize a business intelligence framework that enables fact-based decision making, analysis and insight generation for the business.
• Own end-to-end analytics workflow, including defining success, generating insights and hypotheses, performance metrics, socializing them across the organization, and creating actionable dashboards and reports.
• Develop effective and insightful data visualizations and reports, in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Drive project success though disciplined agile methodologies and strong planning/communication
• Work with a diverse set of business data domains to design and build data solutions for analytics and business data users
• Build and maintain complex data integrations for internal and external data, and maintain the data domain metadata and data catalog
• Create and review technical and user-focused documentation for data solutions (data models, data dictionaries, business glossaries, process and data flows, architecture diagrams, user guides, etc.)
• Design and execute strategies for real-time data analysis and decisioning.
  

Qualifications

• Passion and drive to disrupt the lending and financial industry for the better
• Bachelors degree or higher in a quantitative field preferred
• 6+ years of experience in an analytically driven role (in analytics, data science, finance, or related fields)
• Ability to think creatively and critically and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and often ambiguous work environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence cross-functionally, driving effective communication to technical and non-technical leaders.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL and/or experience with Python and an ability to think in systems.
• Experience working with Cloud Datawarehouse technologies and cloud platforms like AWS
• Passionate about delivering code via CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent data story-telling abilities and experience with data visualization and BI tools (Birst, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, etc.)
• Sufficient laziness to want to automate everything.
